|I bought a beautiful rose bush that has a very fragrant perfume. Something and Perkins brand. What I want to know is where is the best location to plant it. It says it needs at least 6 hours of sun per day. I'd love to put it in the front of the house, but I want to make sure it gets enough sunlight, but am afraid to pick a location with too much sunlight. The front of the house faces northeast. The back, has a mostly a southern face, and I thought possibly back there it would get too much sun. Also, the front slopes slightly and then flattens. If I planted it on the slope would that be good, since it said it needed good drainage? I love roses, and also would like to know the best picks for my area in Dunlo, PA,15930. Thank you in advance|
|Roses do best in full direct sun all day long, so it is impossible to give them too much sun. (They need a minimum of six hours of direct sun including the hour of noon.) Roses also need a well drained location. A slight slope will help assure good drainage. Otherwise, avoid a low spot where water collects after or rain or that is extra wet in the spring.
As far as selecting the best roses for your area, look for varieties that are considered winter hardy to zone 5. Also consider seeking out roses that are naturally disease resistant, especially to black spot.
Enjoy your roses!
