|We are growing tomatoes in half wine barrels and they don't seem to be doing very well. Not many are growing on the vine. Any idea what might be causing this? There doesn't seem to be any pest invasion. Appreciate your response. Terry|
|It shouldn't make any difference to your tomato plants whether they are planted in the ground or in a half wine barrel. What is important is lots of sunshine (and heat) and an adequate amount of water, plus occasional feeding. Tomatoes thrive in hot, sunny places so make sure your plants are getting at least 8 hours of sunshine a day. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry and feed with a water soluable fertilizer (such as Miracle-Gro, Shultz's or Peter's) every few weeks. You should see lots of new growth within a week of feeding your plants.
Best wishes with your tomato plants!
