I have 4 ea 4X4 areas between the sidewalk and the road. I have no sprinkler system out there and was wondering about low water ground cover that will thrive in San Diego weather. Can you help?

The site you describe will make it difficult for any groundcover plant to become established, but here are a few of the most hardy and tolerant of such conditions: Pink Panda Strawberry, Lantana, Acacia redolens, Helianthemum nummularium (Sunrose), Gazania, Dwarf Rosemary, and Malephora (Ice Plant). Plan to water deeply once each week after the plants have become established and they should be relatively easy care.

Best wishes with your landscape!
