Espaliered fruit tree Suckers - Knowledgebase Question

I have a row of fruit trees that are espaliered and 3 of them are continually producing suckers at the base. Pulling or prunning them does not seem to stop or slow their production, any suggestions?

Some fruit trees sucker more than others; malus and prunus are the biggest offenders. There's really nothing you can do, except to pull or prune as they appear. As years go by you'll find that the trees will develop knots or burls at the site of the most prolific sucker growth. These, too, are normal. I like to think of them as adding character. Wish I had better news for you!
