| I have two problems going on with my lawn this year that have me stumped. I cut down a popular tree last year because it was having babies everywhere. Even though the tree is gone the babies keep coming back in a large area, too large to pull out each one. How can I get rid of the babies? Secondly, Moes have invaded my lawn which is a acre in size. I'm told it's because of worms and if I can get rid of them they will leave. Everyone has told me a theory on how to get rid of them but others say they have tried with no success. What do you reccommend? |
| The baby poplars are probably coming up from the roots of the old tree. You can try spot treating them with an herbicide containing glyphosate, read and follow the label directions. Between that and constantly cutting them down, the root will eventually become exhausted. Moles are in some ways beneficial to the soil, so they do not need to be controlled unless they are causing a dangerous situation by tunneling. Moles do not damage plant roots. (Voles eat plant roots.) Moles eat insects, grubs, slugs, earthworms and so on and their presence indicates a healthy soil. There are many (ineffective) home remedies for moles.
