This is getting into the worst time of the year to try to install a new lawn either by seed or with sod. (The best time is late summer to early fall, the next best time is very early spring.) You will need to remove the existing vegetation (this can be done using an herbicide containing glyphosate, read and carefully follow all of the label directions including waiting period), run some basic soil tests to check fertility and soil pH, prepare the soil (loosen it down about six inches, add organic matter such as compost, add fertilizer and possibly also lime), level it and rake it smooth, then lay the sod, give it a light rolling, then keep it watered as needed to keep the soil slightly moist while it becomes rooted. Cost estimates vary widely; I would recommend you obtain detailed estimates from several different companies and try to get recommendations from neighbors or friends, too. Good luck with your project!
