How do you get rid of or prevent weeds in areas where annual flowers are already planted?

Once the bed is established, weeds will pop up in bare soil so the best approach is to mulch immediately after planting or to lay weed barrier and then apply mulch. At this point, any herbicides you use will kill your flowers along with the weeds. I'd pull the weeds, then lay mulch down over the bare soil. This should keep the weeds at bay. At the end of the season you can dig the mulch material into your bed, which will help improve the soil.

Best wishes with your garden!
