Ants are in your tree because of the sap apricot trees exude. They find the sweet sap a source of food and will continue to march up the trunk all summer long, as long as the sap is flowing. The best way to deter them is to wrap the lower part of the trunk with a 4" wide piece of trunk wrap smeared with TangleFoot (a sticky substance). You'll find trunk wrap and TangleFoot in the garden section of your local Home Depot. Ants will try to walk across the trunk wrap and get stuck in the Tanglefoot. Be sure to change the wrap when it becomes full of ants.

Best wishes with your tree!
