Some of the best choices for your gardening region include the following:

--"Tidal Wave Cherry" petunia: a spreading petunia with a vigorous upright growth habit. It forms a dense, mounding hedge of bright flowers that can grow 2 to 3 feet high.

--"Angel Mist Purple Stripe" Angelonia: has purple and white flowers on tall, upright spikes. The plants tolerate heat, and dry and wet conditions. If cut, the flowers can last two to three weeks in a vase.

--"Misty Lilac Wave" petunia: An outstanding spreading-type petunia with light lilac flowers. The 'Wave' series cultivars are outstanding in garden beds and containers.

--Pink Wave petunia: This pink petunia has all the qualities of the other Wave cultivars.

--"Purple Wave" petunia: The first Wave cultivar, this petunia grows to lower heights than the others.

--"Kahuna Violet" Petunia: This upright, spreading petunia grows in a dense hedge and is well suited for large plantings.

--"Butterfly" Marguerite Daisy (Argyranthemum): This bright yellow daisy flowers all summer and has few insect problems. They improve when deadheaded, but the appearance is acceptable even when spent flowers are not removed.

--"Indian Summer" Rudbeckia hirta: This cultivar has huge bright yellow flowers. Although some Rudbeckia are perennials, this cultivar should be treated as an annual.

--"Bonanza Bolero" marigold: A bi-color French marigold, this cultivar is uniform, compact and vigorous. It makes an excellent bedding border.

--"Super Chili" ornamental pepper: The colorful red, orange and yellow fruit give gardens superb color in August and September.

--"Signum" salvia: This vigorous variety blooms profusely and attains its best appearance in July and August. It has blue flowers and can reach 16 to 18 inches in height.

--"Aztec Dark Lavender" Verbena: This is a superior verbena cultivar that blooms well all summer.

--"Tapien Blue Violet" Verbena: This verbena is a superior ground cover with very dense growth. It has brilliant purple flowers.

--"Profusion Orange" zinnia: This robust zinnia produces lots of bright orange single flowers and is resistant to mildew. The flowers do not fade and do not need to be removed.

Three perennials to add to your list:

--"Magnus" echinacea purporea: This purple conflower has ornamental and medicinal value. It has improved flower color, size and orientation. The plant should be grown in full sun in well-drained soils.

--"Russian sage" Perovskia atriplicifoli: This perennial is very hardy and vigorous. It has silver foliage and blue flowers. It can reach 4 feet in height with an equal spread. It will tolerate dry conditions and poor soils.

--"Goldsturm" Rudbeckia fulgida: This plant produces numerous large golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers in the fall. This variety prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade and heavy soils, if the soil is well drained.

Best wishes with your garden!
