My three year old astilbes don't flower much. The flower spikes are short and few. Leaves grow well though. How do I improve the flowers?

If the flower spikes appear stunted, it could be due to soil moisture, soil pH or lack of fertility. Astilbes grow best in partial sun, in rich, slightly acidic, evenly moist soils. If they experience a drought or are otherwise struggling, the flower spikes will be shorter than their potential. Hope this information helps you determine just what the problem might be.
