i have a manhattan terrece garden. i have planted an assortment of trees, flowers and plants. i noticed other growth in most but not all of the pots. i guess it must be some type of weeds. what should i do. they are not unattractive. is this growth preventing the origional plant from thriving. everything looks like it is doing well.

It is usually a good idea to remove weeds promptly from container plantings. The soil space is limited and the weeds will steal moisture and nutrients from your desired plants. If they are larger growing, deeper rooting, perennial weeds they will eventually compete with your plants. By then, it will be very difficult to remove them because the roots systems will be intermingled in the container. To prevent weeds you can mulch the soil surface.
