My neighbors and I want to create a beautiful surprise flower bed for another neighbor whose husband recently left for Afghanistan. Before he left he built a flower bed with garden pavers that remains empty because they were unable to complete before he left. The area is approximately 3' by 8' and receives part sun and shade. We would like to use red, white and blue to represent the colors of the flag
with a touch of yellow to represent hope. Can
you offer suggestions as to what plants may work
best for our space. We live in Bel Air, MD if
that helps for our climate.

If there is sun for at least half the day, you might try red and white flowered begonias with blue salvia. Or you might try red, white and blue petunias. Marigolds could provide the touch of yellow. What kind neighbors you are!
