I planted grass this spring, and since April we have received a large amount of rain. In many places where I planted the grass, the roots were not deep enough and got washed out. What can I do to prevent this from happening to the rest of the yard?

Brian,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

I am not sure I understand the question because grass should not wash out unless water is running under the sod sections somehow. The grass may have not had adequate time to root in after planting before this spring's really rainy weather set in. Deep watering followed by drying out a bit and only moderate fertilization results in the best rooted grass plants.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
