|I would like to put some aborvitaes into planters. Would you recommend this? And, if so, what size (minimum) would I need to purchase?|
|Most arborvitaes will adapt to growing in containers. The size of the pot should be just one size larger than the nursery pot and filled with fresh potting soil. You'll need to pot them up to larger and larger containers as their roots fill the pots (usually every 2-3 years). If you put a small plant in a large container, the potting soil can sour and decompose before the roots have a chance to grow into it. If the soil sours, the roots will stop growing into it and simply grow around and around in the good soil - this can result in a girdled crown which can eventually kill the tree or shrub.|
Best wishes with your new plants!
