|i'm trying to grow lawn in my back yard for the summer. i turned the ground and spreed grass seed but the grass is growing in patches. what did i do wrong and what should i do now?|
|Based on your description you may have to reseed the bare areas, but be sure you have allowed enough time for all of the seed to germinate -- depending on what kind you used it can take several weeks. Seeding failure can be related to poor seed quality, uneven seeding, poor soil preparation, uneven soil moisture, or over or underwatering during the germination time frame. (The soil must be kept damp but not sopping wet.) You may find the following information helpful in troubleshooting and reseeding.
The best time of year for extensive lawn work is late summer to early fall, so you may want to wait until then unless you have a good watering system in place. Midsummer is the most difficult time of year for starting a lawn.
