It's important to identify the pest before you can decide what to do to control it. Sometimes pesky insects will visit a garden for a short time and then move on; using insecticides when there are no pests present is a waste of your time and money. Try carefully inspecting the plants for actual insects, and look for evidence - slime trails indicate slugs or snails; frass indicates caterpillar feeding. Once you've caught the critter in the act of feeding on your plant leaves, you can use the appropriate pesticide.

Best wishes with your garden!
