|I have a sunny corner on our patio where I'd like to put a small tree in a container. Which trees would make good choices for the hot, Houston weather? Also, what sort and size of pot would work best? Any suggestions on the care of trees in containers would also be appreciated. Thanks!|
I would consider a semi dwarf crape myrtle, one that is listed as reaching 7 feet or so. It will not reach that size in a container. Another choice would be a Ficus tree if the area gets a little shade. You just would have to bring that indoors for winter.
Choose a quality potting soil and as large a container as you can. The more root zone the better. Fertilize with a soluble plant food such as Miracle Gro every 2 - 4 weeks at the label rate. Keep the soil moist but not soggy and make sure the container drains well.
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
