| Some sections of my lawn did not recieve a good layer of top soil when the builder graded and seeded the yard. In the spring the lawn looks OK, but by July those areas become brown because the sandy soil does not hold enough moisture for the grass to thrive. Is it possible to spread a layer of top soil over the grass in those areas I would prefer not to till and start over with new seed? |
| Yes, you can add a thin layer of soil over the spots in question. You'll probably need to do this several times during the course of a year, but eventually you'll build up the soil in those areas. Start with about a quarter- to half-inch of soil. Wait until the grass grows up through this and becomes thick, then add another quarter- to half-inch. Be sure to water well to encourage the turf to grow up through the added soil. For good measure, you can toss some grass seed onto the soil, but it isn't necessary. Best wishes with your lawn. |
