Cut off the faded flowers but leave the foliage intact. The plant needs its foliage to rebuild its strength to bloom again next year. In late fall, after freezing weather has killed the stems and foliage for the year, cut them off as well. Dispose of them in the trash, not the compost pile, to prevent carryover of any possible pest or disease problem from one year to the next. In the late fall, top up the mulch around them to about three inches thick. Peonies are very winter hardy so they need no special care. Enjoy!
