When is the time to start pumpkins in my area and also, when may I start my pansy seeds so that I will have strong transplants in the fall? |
Pumpkins should be seeded in spring as soon as the soil temperature at 4-inch depth has reached 60 to 65oF. Pumpkins for ornamental purposes may be seeded as late as June to early July in the lower Piedmont and eastern North Carolina. Depending upon the days to maturity (listed on the back of the package) and the variety you choose to grow, you may have to adjust the planting date to make sure you have enough summer weather to allow the fruits to mature. Pansies are cool weather annuals and the seeds can be started in early to mid-August for transplant out into the garden in mid-September or early October. Best wishes with your garden. |
