Asters perform best in full sunshine. They tend to get leggy (bare stems on the bottom) but you can help your plants avoid that by pinching them back two or three times in the early spring. Pinching the growing tips of each stem will encourage your plants to produce two stems where there was once only one. This will make the plants bushy and dense rather than leggy.

I hope you'll try again - asters are such beautiful flowers that I think it's worth the effort.

Best wishes with your garden!
