|how can i stop the deer from eating my garden? This year they are eating my geraniums that I planted in whiskey barrels at the bottom of my front porch. They also keep eating my purple cone flower in my flower beds. I thought they didn't like these.|
|Deer can be very destructive in the garden. When your garden is on their browse path they often visit again and again and will learn to eat new plants over time. You can try to repel them using the spray on repellents labeled for deer. Be sure to apply and reapply as directed on the label. In my experience, however, the best defense against deer is a tall fence.
You may find the following plant lists interesting. Note that the annual flower we call geranium is botanically called Pelargonium. The scented varieties are less often damaged than the more common unscented types.
(There is also a hardy garden perennial botanically called Geranium; its common name is cranesbill.)
I hope this helps!
