When lower leaves on a tomato turn yellow and then brown it is usually due to a root problem or a leaf disease. Root problems include droughty conditions and soil fungal wilts. Leaf diseases like early blight can also have the same effect and can be remedied with fungicide sprays of mancozeb or maneb.

You can dig and divide your irises in August. Start by cutting the fans down by two-thirds (to make the plants easier to handle). Then use a garden fork to gently lift the rhizomes out of the soil. Divide by breaking off the growing ends and discarding the old center of the rhizome. Replant just a few inches below the soil surface, water them well, then place an organic mulch over the soil to help suppress weeds and slow water evaporation. Keep your iris bed well watered and you should see some new leaves. Next spring they should flower right on time.

Enjoy!
