If you've only recently planted your purple leaf sand cherry, I think the problem is transplant stress. In addition to hot weather and a different exposure to sunshine than the plant was receiving in the nursery, the roots were disturbed during planting. It will take a few weeks for your new plant to adjust and recover from the stress. You can help it along by watering deeply once or twice a week and just waiting for it to begin new growth. Once the roots are well established it should grow and thrive.

Best wishes with your landscape!
