I have several wax myrtle bushes used for screening. These bushes are quite old and have sprouts growing under the bushes. How can I stop these sprouts from growing? I've tried almost everything. I had the same problem with crepe myrtles also. Thank you

The upright sprouts are called suckers and many plants consistently produce suckers because they want to colonize an area. It's a normal growth pattern and there's really no way to stop suckering. However, cutting them down at soil level will keep the plants from colonizing an area. Wish I had a better solution for you!
