I just bought two Quaking Aspen trees and want to plant them next to the house, but I've been told that they have a bad root system and can't be planted anywhere next to a driveway or house or pool, etc. Is this true?

The root systems of quaking aspens can be problematic. They spread (the trees attempt to colonize an area by sending up lots of suckers) and they are nearly impossible to remove after they've been in the ground for a few years. As lovely as the tops of the trees are, the roots are awful! I wouldn't plant them anywhere near a foundation, sidewalk, driveway or patio.
