Have a maple tree that turns red in the fall. The problem the green leafs of the tree looks like it might have some kind of big light grey bettle on it causing the leaves to have light round yellow spots with black dots inside. This treee is probably 20 years old.Have other maples in the yard, too. I guess I need it sprayed. Thanks.

Without seeing the pest, I can't be certain. The damage may not threaten the health of your maples, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious. I would collect a few of the critters (in a sealable plastic bag) and either take them to a well staffed nursery or to your local cooperative extension office for positive identification. Once you know what you're dealing with, you can determine whether or not they need to be controlled. (MSUE cooperative extension; 5303 S Cedar St; Lansing, MI 48911; (517) 887-4588)
