|My Endless Summer Hydrangea has only one bloom just starting on it so far this year. How can I encourage blossoms this late in the season or next season.|
|Endless Summer is special in that it is able to bloom on both old and new wood. This means it will bloom early in the summer on branches that survived the winter. It will bloom later in the season and into the fall on the new growth of the current year. If your plant lost a lot of its branches during the winter, it would not begin to bloom until later in the summer.
The best care is to provide organic soil that is rich and evenly moist yet well drained. Top dressing with compost and using an organic mulch will help feed the soil slowly over time on an ongoing basis. You can also fertilize in spring with a slow release granular fertilizer such as Hollytone, read and follow the label directions for how much to use.
Keep in mind that a new plant will still be using energy to become established and well rooted for the first few years; after that you should see it begin to perform its best.
