|I recently purchased a new home. The builders did little more than plants some shrubs in the rocky, clay. Pine straw was used as ground cover in the beds. Since then, I have planted several types of flowers with no luck. Nothing seems to do well. What steps can I take to improve the ground condition for future years to come?|
Build your soil quality by bringing in a few inches of compost and mixing it into the existing soil working the soil about 6 inches deep. Then the plants you put out should perform better for you. It may also be helpful to have your soil tested and see if any particular nutrients are lacking. Your County Extension Office can assist you with soil testing.
