Ground ivy (Glechoma) can be very difficult to eradicate. You will need to use an herbicide containing glyphosate and it will probably need two applications. Read and carefully follow all of the label directions, and be aware this is a nonselective herbicide that will kill all plants, not just the ground ivy. August is a good time to do that, followed by complete renovation of the area in early September. September is the best time of year to do lawn work such as seeding. Keep in mind that ground ivy often thrives in moist, shady spots where lawn grass is not going to grow well. If this is the case, you may want to use a shade tolerant groundcover instead of grass. Good luck with your project!
