I removed my carpet roses that were planted near my Italian Cypress since the gardener butchered them. Since the trees give off shade and let some sun in, can I sucessfully plant gardenias parallel to them? I was thinking about azaleas, but not sure if they would get too much sun. Would I be better of with a ground cover? Thanks, Jan |
I would avoid planting gardenias simply because they can be temperamental. If the soil, moisture, and sunshine are not quite to their liking they can just sit and pout. There are some azaleas that like exposure to sun or even partial sun so if you like azaleas, you might try planting Southern Indica Hybrids in the site. Some popular ones are: Brilliant (red), Duc de Rohan (salmon), Fielder's White (white), Formosa/Phoenicia (purple), George L. Tabor (lavender), Glory of Sunnyhill (orange), Little John (burgandy foliage with pink blooms), Mistrial (pink), Pride of Dorking (red), Pink Lace (pink), Red Ruffles (red), and Southern Charm (hot pink), White Grandeur (white), White Lace (white). Best wishes with your new plants! |
