|I do not know what type of hydrangea I have. When they turn green in the spring they green out from the bottom of the plant. I have not cut back the stems but the new growth seems to grow around the old stem. Should I cut back the stem in the fall? The foliage is large blue custer flower on two of the bushes, we have a endless summer and one lace cap. Thanks for your help|
Yes your plants are probably sustaining winter damage. You can remove the old stems in late winter if you like.
