I do not know what type of hydrangea I have. When they turn green in the spring they green out from the bottom of the plant. I have not cut back the stems but the new growth seems to grow around the old stem. Should I cut back the stem in the fall? The foliage is large blue custer flower on two of the bushes, we have a endless summer and one lace cap. Thanks for your help

Dee Dee,

Yes your plants are probably sustaining winter damage. You can remove the old stems in late winter if you like.
