White Caterpillar with Black spots - Knowledgebase Question

There are a lot of white caterpillars with black spots all over my Japanese privet hedges. Normally, I would ignore it and let them change to beautiful butterflies, but these are brand new plants and are very small and I am afraid they will not survive the appetite of so many caterpillars. Is there a quick way of killing the caterpillars so that they don't do any more damage?

Thanks,
Robin

Robin,

The simplest approach is to hand pick and destroy them. Another option is to apply a product containing B.t. which is a safe product that controls caterpillars that consume foliage that it is on but it doesn't harm other insects.
