|There are a lot of white caterpillars with black spots all over my Japanese privet hedges. Normally, I would ignore it and let them change to beautiful butterflies, but these are brand new plants and are very small and I am afraid they will not survive the appetite of so many caterpillars. Is there a quick way of killing the caterpillars so that they don't do any more damage?
The simplest approach is to hand pick and destroy them. Another option is to apply a product containing B.t. which is a safe product that controls caterpillars that consume foliage that it is on but it doesn't harm other insects.
