|This Summer one of my Echinacea plants turned black and shriveled, the others did not. And now one of my Astilbe on the other side of the garden turned black, the others seem fine. Also my Baby's Breath never opend and just dried up. I'm concerned that some pest is in my garden, all the other plants are doing well.|
|Poor drainage can clog the vascular system of your echinacea and cause it to turn black; check to make sure you are not overwatering and that the soil drains quickly. If everything appears to be okay, you may be dealing with a fungal disease. Lots of sunshine and good air circulation all around your plants will help them avoid fungal diseses. Unopened flowers on Baby's Breath is normal. Some cultivars open their flowers fully and others do not. You might want to determine which cultivar you are growing.
Best wishes with your garden.
