|During the recent rains in texas Ft Worth Area, my tree seems shocked and has dead leaves all over with not much new growth. The soil is black gumbo and we planted oak (Red) with a variety of fresh soil and manure last year, but tree seems loose and appears to be dying. Could tree have root Rot? What elase could be wrong? Thanks ~Deborah|
The tree you described may be suffering from a soggy planting hole. When you plant a tree it is best to use the soil from the hole to reset it, not compost or manure. This creates an underground flower pot that becomes an underground bathtub during rainy weather. Roots cannot take sitting in standing water conditions too long. At this point there is not much for you to do except maintain moderate moisture. The tree may pull out of this and be fine. If the tree is loose it may also have been planted too deep. You might discuss replanting or replacing it this fall with a landscaper. November is the time to replant if you decide to dig and reset the plant at a better height and in a proper way.
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
