I've got two questions:
1. What's the best treatment for sod web worms? I have a dog with allergies who uses the yard.

2. When should I stop dead heading my hybrid tea and florabunda roses and let the rose hips stay? I leave old buds on the shrub roses.

Sevin will control sod webworms but you'll want to keep your dog off the treated lawn for a day. The bacterial insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) var. kurstaki (Dipel) also is sold for control of sod webworm. Sod webworms and many cutworms are susceptible to Bt if it is eaten. However, it may be difficult to apply Bt insecticides in a manner that allows turf-feeding caterpillars to eat them. To increase effectiveness, apply shortly after mowing and late in the day.

September is the month to stop deadheading your roses. As the weather cools your roses won't produce many flowers so those that develop in September can be allowed to develops hips.

Best wishes with your garden!
