| I have a huge flowering cherry tree in my yard. I don't know exactly what type it is though. It needs pruning badly. Is it okay to prune it in late summer/early fall? I did prune it some last fall (early Nov.), but it wasn't enough. Is it too soon in the year to do it again? I need to cut it back from the house, etc. Thanks in advance for your expertise! |
| If you prune in the summer, you'll encourage lots of upright, suckering growth. Spring, right after flowering is the best time to prune, so you won't lose the lovely flowers. If that isn't important to you, prune in late fall, after the leaves have dropped and the tree is dormant. Best wishes with your landscape! |
