Polystichum setiferum 'Divisilobum'-- softsheild fern -- also called Alaska fern (a misnomer, since it is not native to Alaska). Softshield ferns are almost as sun- and drought-tolerant as sword ferns, but for best results, plant them where they won't get midday sun and give them even moisture. To 2 feet tall. I cannot find a local source of this fern, but you can order it from Gurney's (www.gurneys. com) or Springhill Farms (www.springhillnursery.com).
