Nutsedge can be difficult to control. It prefers damp sites, so one of the first steps is to improve drainage in the area. Then you would follow best practices to keep the turf grass as healthy as possible to crowd out the nutsedge. Sometimes chemical controls are also needed. Please contact your local Rutgers cooperative extension for advice as to what is approved for homeowner use in your state. They should also be able to help you develop an appropriate control program and overall lawn maintenance plan.
