The tree will grow but it will take years to reach a mature, productive age. The sweet cherries are not well adapted to Texas and have not done well for folks that tried them in the past. The latest issue of Texas Gardener magazine has an article on some that are being tried that show some promise in case you are interested. However growing a cherry from a seed would produce a plant that is genetically different from a grafted variety and thus not likely to be a superior choice. Cherries also need a second variety for cross pollination.
