|There are mmany different possible causes for black spots. Black spots can be related to disease such as a fungal infection or can be sooty mold growing on secretions from insects feeding on the foliage. Sometimes black spots are dirt that has stuck onto spray residue. Sometimes scale insects seem like spots. Since these are new I would strongly suggest you obtain a specific identification of the black spots. Your local county cooperative extension would be a good place to start, or possibly a professionally trained nurseryman. I hope it is nothing too serious.
