I have two crepe myrtles in my backyard. They do not fully bloom. The buds appear but they do not open. A few open and the rest seem to die. I see other crepe myrtles in tehe area in full bloom with the purple, pink, red blooms. How should I care for them and when and how should I prune them

Crape myrtles bloom on new shoots of the season so a cold snap while the flower buds are forming can cause some damage. Aside from cold weather, immaturity and over fertilization can affect the flower buds. I would allow them to flower next spring then prune them back lightly. The new growth the pruning prompts should flower again later in the summer. This second flush of flowers should open completely. Be sure to water your trees on a regular basis, but don't feed them until next year.

Best wishes with your trees!
