It does seem a bit early in the season for your apple trees to be losing leaves, but I don't think it's anything to be alarmed about. Newly planted apple trees sometimes march to a different drummer. They may have experienced some heat or drought stress, or even a night or two of cool weather. They are responding to the environmental conditions by going into dormancy. Rake the leaves from the garden and continue to water regularly until winter rains take over the job. Next spring they should leaf out right on schedule - and retain those leaves until late fall.

Best wishes with your new trees!
