| 5 years ago when I moved in my house, there was a fig tree that bore dark purple figs around September. I made the mistake of not covering the tree for the winter for 2 years. The tree comes back regardless but it does not bear figs anymore. I wrapped it for the last 2 winters and the tree comes back in the spring like before but no figs. The tree looks healthy but it seems like it can't bear fruit anymore. How do I stimulate this tree to bear fruit again? The tree is actually a bunch of small branches coming out of the ground, not a tree with a main body and protruding branches. I know it is a fig tree because the previous owners said so and the fruit are figs. There are about 20 branches (approx 1/2 to 1 inch thick) coming up from the ground going up to about 7 feet high. Any ideas? |
| I suspect the tree was stressed by being killed back to the ground, and now is in need of some pruning. Without knowing what variety it is, there is a possibility it will not bear in years that it suffers severe winter damage. The article also includes some winter care tips.
