What type of fertilizer do you recommend here in Orlando and when do you apply for shrubs and plants around my home.

Most trees and shrubs will benefit best from a turf type product with a 3-1-2 ratio of nutrients, such as 15-5-10 for example. Apply it at a rate of one cup per inch of trunk diameter to the entire area beneath the branchspread. You can fertilize in late winter or early spring and again in early summer to get more growth. Additional fertilizations are generally not needed but in sandy soils may be helpful. Finally let me add that a soil test will be the best way to determine if additional applications of nutrients, such as magnesium or potassium are required.
