|I need to substitue a Podocarpus 'icee blue' tree. Do you have any suggestions? It's going in the front planter close to a structure.|
|There are two other Podocarpus types, in addition to 'Icee Blue,' that especially lend themselves to growing in small spaces. One is the shrub yew pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus maki), a semi-dwarf selection; the other, Podocarpus nagi, whose pendulous leaves conjure up the tranquility of a Japanese garden. Or, you might consider 'Sky Rocket' Juniper. Narrowly columnar, this dense shrub has silvery blue scalelike and needlelike foliage on the same shoots. The foliage is aromatic if bruised. Produces rounded, fleshy, silvery berries. It has the same mature height and spread of the 'Icee Blue' Podocarpus.
Best wishes with your garden!
