we moved to Jacksonville Florida about 6 months back. we have noticed couple of brown patches in our back yard and it seems to be spreading. we fertilized and even used weed control to our lawn. our we suppose to get a sample tested before using a Fungicides on these patches. If so where can we get the sample tested and what are the fungicides you recommend. your advise will be appreciated

Buddhika,

Your brown patches could be due to a number of different things including dry spots, chinch bugs, grubs, or some fungal disease of the turf. I suggest you contact your local County Extension Office and ask them about having the problem diagnosed. It may be that you can bring in a sample taken according to their instructions or perhaps send them some digital photos e-mail. With such samples or photos they can better tell what is causing it and what to do about it.

Their contact information is:
Duval County Extension, 1010 N McDuff Avenue, Jacksonville, FL
Phone: (904) 387-8850
