Oleander - Knowledgebase Question

Question by mikebrat10

Dear expert, I planted two oleander bushes this year (San Antonio, TX) that are identical in height and health. One of the bushes flowers constantly but the other has never flowered. I've tried a couple of Miracle Gro products to help it flower, but nothing works. How can I make this shrub flower? Thanks for any advice.

It does sound a little perplexing, doesn't it. Oleander blooms on new shoots so you might try reducing the length of each of the branches (cut back to just above a leaf). Two new, hopefully flowering!, shoots will develop just below the pruning cut. I'd also recommend withholding fertilizer. Too much nitrogen can result in lots of green growth at the expense of flowering.

Hope this information helps!
