I bought a bougainvillea from Home Depot a couple of years ago and was told it would be alright to keep it in the pot and it was not necessary to plant it in the ground. Well, when I went to move the plant it had established a root into the ground so deep I couldn't pull it out. Can I cut the root and move the plant without doing any damage? |
It would be better to dig the root out of the ground and then carefully thread it through the drainage hole, then repot the entire plant in a new and larger pot. If that isn't possible, cut it off but leave the plant in the pot for a few weeks so it can recover. Then you can either repot it or plant it in the ground. |
