red clay dirt - Knowledgebase Question

Charlotte, No
Question by vanessiafunc

My husband and I recently relocated to Charlotte, N.C. and purchased a new home here. The landscaping isn't much. I have tried to work with the red clay dirt, but nothing seems to grow well in it. Since there isn't really any landscaping here how do I get started? I would like to plant annuals and perennials in the front of the house since we are the first house in the development.

Since you're new to the area, I'll recommend a couple of local resources for you which will provide lots of information on the plants that thrive in your new locale, as well as how to prepare the soil prior to planting and how to take care of your new plants once they are installed. Check out the following websites, hosted by North Carolina State University: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/...

(You may have to cut and paste the addresses.)

Best wishes with your new landscape!
